After many years of working with an elder law attorney and many nursing homes, I (Rich Bozzer) became readily aware of how confusing the Medi-Cal application process really was for families. There are many rules and regulations that are a part of the application process and most families were having trouble navigating the necessary steps to apply. It was then that I opened MC Solutions to help seniors and their families better understand the Medi-Cal application process as well as helping them apply for benefits. My main goal is to give families the tools to help them make informed decisions while planning for their loved one’s future.
I have been helping with Medi-Cal applications for over twenty years; very rarely am I surprised as to the assets people own. This experience has given me a wealth of information that allows me to explain and give a clear understanding of the Medi-Cal process to anyone seeking information on Medi-Cal. If you or a loved one are applying for Medi-Cal and have questions or concerns, I can help you.
The first step in the process is to schedule an initial phone conversation in order to gather some basic details about your loved one’s assets and income. From there, we will schedule a meeting to review all assets and income in more detail. During this meeting we will also discuss how Medi-Cal works as well as anything that may affect eligibility.
Going forward, I will work with you to develop a strategy that will address and resolve any issues affecting your loved one’s eligibility for Medi-Cal. As your authorized representative, I will document each step of this process in order to build a case that we will then submit to the Medi-Cal Department for review.
I will work with the Medi-Cal Department on your behalf to answer any questions or concerns about your case in order to help you get approved. Once approved, I will send an approval notification to the care facility letting them know Medi-Cal has been granted. Generally, this process takes about 60-90 days from start to finish.
Rich walked us through a very complicated process during a difficult time.
His experience with Medi-Cal guided us to make the best decisions for our dad.
Rich helped at such a difficult time in our family’s life, not knowing how to deal with our elders and where to get help.
I can’t even imagine how it would have turned out if I hadn’t found Rich/MC Solutions.
Rich is professional and responsive to any questions that come up along the way. Our family is forever grateful for all he has done and highly recommend him to any family with Medi-Cal needs.

Medi-Cal uses assets to determine eligibility, income is used to determine share of cost.
Depending on how the house is titled. The principal residence is not subject to recovery if it is held in living trust, joint tenancies, survivorship, life estates.
One of the most important pre-Medi-Cal planning things that should be considered is having powers of attorney or similar in place before incapacity occurs.
In 99% of most situations, no. There are other Medi-Cal approved methods that can be used to preserve an estate from spending down. Please contact me on how that could be accomplished
